The intro - a bit about me

A bit about me

As of the time of starting this as a blog, it's March of 2017. My name is Garth Haslem and I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - also known as LDS, also known as Mormon. Mormon was a great prophet by the way - so was his son Moroni, but I'll get into that later.

I have recently begun the transition from being a home inspector to a new business where I'm a trainer. That matters because now I have time to work on me - who I am. I am working on my center; my core. On making the most of who I can be and maximizing and honoring the gifts I've been given.

Briefly, and without spending much time on it, I realize that gifts are just that - they're gifts. Handed to you by someone who can give them. Having a gift doesn't mean a person is awesome - you didn't earn it - it was given to you. But having a gift does mean that you should respect it, appreciate it, develop it, use it and expand it. Then I believe that you get more gifts.

I was recently challenged by my mentor to spend 10 minutes writing down what I learned from my scripture study. Knowing that diaries are difficult to handwrite and that they tend to get lost over time, I'm doing my diary as a blog. If you happen to run across this - hopefully you can use it as a gift. Hopefully I can be inspired enough to write something that might be meaningful to you, and hopefully you are in a place where you can accept the gift. If you cannot, please don't keep reading - you'll just be harming yourself.

"And now I speak unto all the ends of the earth - that if the day cometh that the power and gifts of God shall be done away among you, it shall be because of unbelief" - Moroni 10:24

"And I exhort you to remember these things; for the time speedily cometh that ye shall know that I lie not, for ye shall see me at the bar of God; and the Lord God will say unto you: Did I not declare my words unto you, which were written by this man, like as the crying from the dead, yea, even as one speaking out of the dust?" - Moroni 10:26

May I and we be prepared to receive the gifts that the Lord has ready for us. To accept, to appreciate and value, to keep and expand our gifts. To keep them shiny and never dusty. To remember the parable of the talents and what it means to us individually.

--------------

OK, that's the intro. That's where I'm coming from and where my life is at right now. For me as I transition from where I was to wherever it is that I am going, this is my focus. Hopefully you can use maybe some of these words as a tool to assist you as you partner with Jesus Christ in guiding you through your own path. If we meet, know that Christ's love for you is beyond yours or my understanding. If God is your goal, He'll take you where you want to go. Like all other gifts, that gift is available when we're ready for it.
