Gifts of the Spirit (specifically the gift of guidance from
the other side)
And behold, there were divers ways that he did manifest
things unto the children of men… (Moroni 7:24)
And because he hath done this, my beloved brethren, have
miracles ceased? Behold I say unto you, Nay; neither have angels ceased to
minister unto the children of men. For behold, they are subject unto him, to
minister according to the word of his command, showing themselves unto them of
strong faith and a firm mind in every form of godliness (Moroni 7:29-30)
Or have angels ceased to appear unto the children of men?
Wherefore, I know by this think which thou hast said, that if the Gentiles have not charity, because of our weaknesses, that thou wilt prove them, and take away their talent, yea, even that which they have received, and give unto them who shall have more abundantly. Ether 12:35. 3/27/17
This goes back to something I recently experienced. A facebook conversation where I posted something about the mormon lifestyle. An anti-mormon "friend" caught it and had to be sarcastic and oppositional. I took the time to kindly explain to him that there is more for him if he's open to it. He responded in a way that indicated that he wasn't open. After a good deal of hesitation, I tried to reflect God's love to him and explain to him why and how he could reach for more. Once again, the response was sarcastic and angry. Now I'm wondering if the "gift" I gave him of God's word was not only wasted, but if it set him back. It was God's word as best it could be delivered by a messenger. I set him back - apparently he wasn't ready. This makes me wonder if I should avoid setting him back further in the future by cutting him off from other gifts he'll reject. In other words, de-friending him. I could argue that both ways. The Lord will cut him off as he may, but perhaps for me it's - I don't know. I certainly can't not post inspiring stuff in the future to all just to avoid setting him further back. At the same time, I don't want inspiring stuff to all to be poisoned when he feels the need to throw vinegar in the drink. I don't have that answer right now.
